Rare Birds, Planning Our Year, and "The Warmth of Love"

This week on Tuesday with Cameron, we had tons of fun playing some group games in the classroom (Butt Off, Ride My Big Fat Pony) and then we created Rare Birds. 

A grade 8 student drew several imaginary birds, and then each of us had to choose a bird, colour it (as weirdly as possibly) -- making sure we did it in private so no one else could see it -- and then each of us wrote three different things about ourselves that make us "rare"! It was fun to then try to guess whose was whose. 

Today, not many people showed up because of a power outage at the school this morning. But this afternoon, with Julie, we planned our year (boy, do we ever have a lot of cool ideas for activities and field trips!), practised our emergency drills (fire, earthquake and lock down), and then watched an environmentally friendly movie called The Warmth of Love: The Four Seasons of Sophie Thomas. 

Sophie was a very nature-oriented First Nations woman who has cured many illnesses, including cancer, with her natural cures. Sophie believed that "If we take care of our Mother Earth, she will always look after us." The movie made us feel loved.
